HIGH ENERGY BLUES SENSATION!!
Michele Lundeen, dubbed "The Queen of Steam" for her stirring vocals and electrifying stage presence, does indeed command attention. Often described as "Janis Joplin meets Bonnie Raitt" (or think Lydia Pense, Bonnie Bramlett, Bette Midler, Etta James, Aretha Franklin!), Michele is a powerful, soulful vocalist with an incomparable style all her own, effortlessly blending classic roadhouse rhythm & blues, jump swing, Memphis groove, sultry jazz and funky soul and even some N'Awlins style 2nd line into a satisfying musical stew. An established, popular and respected veteran of the club, concert and festival circuit in both Northern Nevada and Southern California, Michele has shared stages with dozens of nationally known blues and roots artists from John Lee Hooker to Elvin Bishop and Savoy Brown to Queen Ida while gaining a reputation as a talented headliner in her own right.
Playing regular showcase venues and a long list of high profile festival events has allowed Michele to expose her musical talents and establish a strong regional following. Formed in 1998, she and her 5 pc, San Diego based band Michele Lundeen & Blues Streak are seasoned professionals won the coveted title of SAN DIEGO BLUES CHALLENGE WINNERS 2000 and performed in the Blues Foundation’s International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN, in 2001. Michele has been Nominated for “BEST BLUES” in the SAN DIEGO MUSIC AWARDS 2008-2007-2006-2002-2001-2000. She and her band have established regular shows at popular San Diego venues like Patrick’s II, in San Diego’s historic Gaslamp District and Humphrey’s Backstage Lounge on Shelter Island and she is frequently a featured artist in allstar showcases. Michele also performs in festive costume as Madame Michele LeRoux for Mardi Gras themed events.
Current band lineup includes: Reuben Vigil (guitars/vocals), David Lindgren (bass/vocals), Walter Gentry (sax/vocals), Ric Lee or Michael Minor (drums). Keys included on occasion.
Growing up in Oakland, CA, music was always the centerpiece and staff of life for Michele. “My mom had a varied collection of albums like Harry Belfonte, The Righteous Brothers, Ray Charles, Mahalia Jackson and African and Island sounds! Then I heard Aretha and Tina Turner and I was really taken in!" Influenced by that commanding, Gospel/Soul sound, Michele’s own musical expressions exude attitude and confidence...but especially honesty. "I'm honestly moved by my experiences enough to shout them from the rooftops," Singing is a release. I'm telling/singing my story from my heart...my soul...I feel it, I believe it, and I know that the people can relate...I hand over my honest emotions to the audience.”
Eventually Michele began a singing career while balancing duties of a young, working mother. A gifted interpreter of songs, Michele’s hi-energy, live performances help tell her song’s stories, and one can visualize that intensity in her recorded work. With an honest, sometimes humorous look at the trials and tribulations of life, her lyrics can be poignant or tongue 'n cheek with straight ahead arrangements and catchy hooks.
Earthy, rootsy, robust and from the heart. Fans love her honesty and raw intensity.
